Water Conservation
The majority of fixtures installed in our hotel are low-flow, using less water than standard ones.
All trees and flowerbeds are fed by a drip-irrigation system set to work only in the early morning and in the evening.
All fixtures have a leak-detection system.
A chlorine usage reduction system in the swimming pool and plunge pools is in place.
Housekeeping
We work on identifying safer products for our guests, employees and the natural ecosystem.
Healthy, clean and fresh air in your room is safeguarded by our housekeeping staff through non-toxic hypoallergenic cleaning products.
All our spa, guest bathroom and public restroom products — such as soaps, shampoo, and conditioner — are eco-friendly.
We place glass jars for purified water in villas and plastic jugs with purified water on the beach to reduce the use of plastic bottles.
Recycled-paper newspapers are delivered to the villas.
We follow a garbage separation program.
Reduced Emissions
Viceroy Riviera Maya has implemented the use of public transportation for employees.
A comprehensive recycling program is in place that includes light bulbs, glass, cardboard, paper, cell phones, batteries and printer cartridges.
We make our own compost, obtaining fertilizer with our organic waste (litter, sawdust, coal, grass).
Our treatment plant allows us to reuse sewage for our irrigation system.
We use ecological mini-split air conditioning equipment.
Our Green Purchasing Policy assures we acquire sustainable, eco-friendly products whenever possible.
Food & Beverage
We offer travelers a more sustainable and healthier cuisine by using local products and fresh, seasonal produce and other ingredients in our food and beverage programs.
Viceroy Riviera Maya considers it essential to support our local and state communities by purchasing their wares.
We recycle our burned oil.
Salt is only provided upon request at our dining facilities.
We encourage guests not to use straws.
Spa
A growing trend in spas is the integration of treatments that feature local and indigenous ingredients as well as natural and organic products. Unique brand and resort signature treatments are emerging to truly offer our guests an intimate connection to our destination.
Wayak Spa plunges guests even deeper into the mystical healing world of the ancient Maya with the addition of a K’óben (Mayan herb kitchen), where the resort’s resident shaman creates the ultimate personalized treatments, using our own herbs fresh from our Shaman Garden.
Part of the Community
The artisanal soaps offered to our guests are formulated with organic ingredients found on the Yucatan Peninsula. A variety of soaps are presented in different scents and styles each offering a different experience. Once our guest selects his preference, the Soap Concierge slices personalized bars from large blocks of soap.
We sponsor the El Naranjal support program for the rural state community providing them with a percentage of our special dinners.
Our local communities also receive our bedsheets.
