Cherry Blossoms at Tidal Basin
Each Spring, Washington DC’s Tidal Basin bursts into color as the famed cherry blossom trees begin to bloom, drawing locals and visitors alike to take in their beauty. Peak bloom occurs between the last week of March through the first week of April. To experience the beauty for yourself, check out the National Cherry Blossom Festival which welcomes visitors to enjoy the traditional culture and contemporary art installations, all set in the visual backdrop of the beautiful cherry blossoms.
Convention Center
We admit we have some pretty cool neighbors here in DC, and the Walter E. Washington Convention Center tops the list. This 2.3 million-square-foot conventions and meetings facility — which opened in 2003 and is one of the most energy-efficient buildings for its size — boasts numbers like 703,000 square feet of exhibit space, 77 customizable meeting rooms, the region’s largest ballroom, and a $4 million art collection. Located on two Metro lines, the Convention Center can also easily be reached on foot; it’s just 15 minutes from our front door.
The National Mall
For more than 200 years, this swath of green, coined “America’s Front Yard,” has symbolized the nation’s capital and all of the freedoms this country embraces. The National Mall stretches from the foot of the US Capitol to the Potomac River, offering 1,000 acres of public space coveted by locals and visitors alike. Explore the Mall by foot, bike, or Segway, pack a picnic or fly a kite, check out festivals and events that often take over the open space, or walk the exhibit halls inside Smithsonian Museum favorites from the American History Museum and Air and Space Museum to newer additions like the American Indian Museum. On the Mall, adults and kids alike delight in highly-educational, sensory-filled experiences.
The White House & Beyond
Our hotel is a 15-minute walk from the famous Pennsylvania Avenue address, and the adjacent Lafayette Square is a great place to people-watch or enjoy a picnic lunch picked up along the way. Beyond a White House visit, our proximity to the McPherson Square Metro station also puts all of the Smithsonian museums and most of the city’s iconic buildings and monuments within reach. Sure, you can easily hop in a taxi or Uber, too, but walkers will be pleasantly surprised to find their temporary home in a highly pedestrian-friendly zone, surrounded by the best DC activities.
